THE STORY OF JESUS: Luke 16:10-15
“What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” (Luke 16:15)
Once again Jesus uses hyperbole (extreme statement) to make a point.
We humans value many things, including good things.
But for some reason we tend to highly value not-so-good things.
Our sinful, selfish hearts value what makes us feel good.
We have become slaves to riches, power, and many kinds of pleasure.
We serve these as our masters, and they ruin our lives.
God has entrusted so much to us, and we waste and abuse these gifts.
No wonder God detests the things we value, because they ruin us.
What parent would not hate that which is ruining their child’s life.
Jesus came to set us free from these self-destructive slave masters.
He has entrusted His Spirit to us, to help us overcome them.
He starts with small steps, to see if we can be trusted with more.
He wants us to learn, grow and flourish, but will we participate?
Will I value and pursue what God values, or will I settle for bondage?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, show me what I really value, what lesser pleasure drives and ruins me. Help me to hate what You hate, and love what You love!
Greed.
Generosity.
Greed consumes.
Generosity expands.
Greed is for self.
Generosity is for others.
As God is generous with His gifts, I too need to be generous with the gifts given to me by Him. The Lord loves a cheerful giver.
What controls my heart for where your heart is there is your treasure also. God must be at the center of all my doing. Love God. Love neighbour. That must be seen in all my doings. My attachment must be to God and not to the things of this world.
God driven.
Spirit filled and Spirit led.
Serving Him.
Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into your hands
All of my ambitions, hopes and plans
I surrender these into your hands
For it’s only in your will that I am free
For it’s only in your will that I am free
Jesus, all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
