Abandoned and ignored?

THE STORY OF JESUS: Job 29-31
“I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer.” (Job 30:20)
This is one of the hardest parts of life in this sin-messed world.
When we turned from God, we lost our connection to God.
We cannot see God, or walk with God in the garden (Genesis 3:8)
And when our misery and suffering become unbearable, we cry out for God.
Job expresses the feeling of utter abandonment: by people and by God.
Jesus experienced this as well, on the cross.
But through His resurrection, He has restored us to God.
We are waiting for the day when He will finally straighten all things out.
Until then, like Jesus, we join with those who suffer and feel abandoned.
If for a time God seems absent, we can be present on His behalf.
We can show people they are not alone… and that God does care!
Job’s community turned away from him when his life crashed.
And his friends put the blame on him, and made him feel worse.
May we bring hope, not more grief, to those who suffer or feel abandoned.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, open my eyes to see the despair and hear the cry of those who suffer, or feel abandoned. May I be Jesus to them!

  1. When all goes well we feel blessed. We can be a great influence upon the people around us. When hard times comes upon us, what do our friends do to us?
    Respect us?
    Reject us?
And we cry out to God
but we do not hear His Word.
Does God not see our ways?
    Stand in integrity.
Do what is right at all times and walk in His Way
for we are always in His presence
    living for Jesus
    for He is our security
    our Rock and Redeemer.
At all times I need to live for Jesus.
He hears me at all times.

Jesus calls us over the tumult
    Of our life’s wild, restless, sea;
Day by day His sweet voice soundeth,
    Saying, “Christian, follow Me!”

As of old Saint Andrew heard it
    By the Galilean lake,
Turned from home and toil and kindred,
    Leaving all for Jesus’ sake.

Jesus calls us from the worship
Of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us,
    Saying, “Christian, love Me more!”

In our joys and in our sorrows,
Days of toil and hours of ease,
Still He calls, in cares and pleasures,
“Christian, love Me more than these!”

Jesus calls us! By Thy mercies,
Savior may we hear Thy call,
Give our hearts to Thine obedience,
Serve and love Thee best of all.
