THE STORY OF JESUS: Job 13-14
“I will wait for my renewal to come.” (Job 14:14)
Job sees everything that happens as directed by God (14:5).
Ultimately Job expects that God will renew him (14:14-17).
But in the meantime, our days are few and full of trouble (14:1).
Will we still trust God, in light of this?
People usually assume that if God is good, life here must be good.
God is supposed to protect us, keep us safe and successful.
If we live good lives, we will not suffer (Job’s friends).
Job sees it otherwise; this life is hard, but it will end well.
No matter what happens in this life, Job will cling to God.
This kind of dogged faith – desperate, wrestling – is what God honours.
We live in a sin-messed world of our own making.
God is directing the chaos we unleashed for our ultimate renewal.
The ride is rough, because of the path we have chosen.
But the destination is assured with God… wait for it!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, in this world we do have trouble. But I can take heart… for You have and You will overcome this world!
What am I living for?
The word’s view is eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you will die. You only go around once, so live life to the fullest. Seize the moment.
But that is not what life is all about.
We are all in the school of Christ – a time of preparation for tomorrow. The real life lies ahead. The day will come when I will see clearly that all You do is for my good and Your glory.
Help me Lord to live for Jesus and not be seduced by the world’s pleasures, or selfish pleasures.
Today and every day, God needs to be first in my life.
Lead me and guide me by Your Spirit.
Living for Jesus, a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
Refrain:
O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, my heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone.
Living for Jesus Who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.
Living for Jesus, wherever I am,
Doing each duty in His holy Name;
Willing to suffer affliction and loss,
Deeming each trial a part of my cross.
Living for Jesus through earth’s little while,
My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;
Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,
Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.
God never promised that our lives on this earth would be easy, but He does promise us that He will be there right along beside us in our trials. (1 Peter 4:12-13). I believe that God uses our trials not only to draw us closer to him but also uses them for the greater community of believers. I take comfort in knowing that God sees the whole picture of my life when I only see a portion of it.
