THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 15:33-37
“With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.” (Mark 15:37)
These words make me think when God first created humans.
“God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.” (Genesis 2:7)
Right now I am breathing the breath of God, the breath of life.
I do this every day, and take it for granted that I’m still breathing.
I’ve also been with a few who breathed their last breath, it was eerie.
How much more eerie when Jesus breathed His last breath with a loud cry.
As I imagine it, I get the shivers.
Jesus, the incarnation of God, fully surrenders what was rightfully His.
He empties Himself of divinity, including the Breath of Life (Philippians 2:6-8).
Today’s reading is humbling, yet inspiring (in-breathing) for me.
As a Jesus follower, I see in this moment the heartbeat of God.
God’s sacrifice for me reveals the depth of love, and the meaning of life.
The breath of God made me to live in love like this, like God!
To devote my breath in loving God by inspiring (in-breathing) others with love!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, every breath I take I take in You. May my life reflect the huge gift that it is, and be used to extend life to others.
Darkness covered the land.
Eerie.
Jesus cries out!
Being all alone. Forsaken by men and God.
Jesus breathed His last
and
because He did
I can breathe everyday
for He is the breathe of life.
Victorious
is the breath of God.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Till I am wholly Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.
