THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 14:32-36
“He prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him.” (Mark 14:35)
If possible… isn’t anything possible for God (Mark 10:27)?
Literally, Jesus says, ‘if it is within Your power” (dunamis).
These thoughts do not conflict, for God’s power will not work against His purpose.
Jesus is submitting to God’s ‘very good’ purpose.
I often hear Christians use “everything is possible”, but not “if possible”.
They frame healing as ‘always God’s will’, so we should always ask for and receive it.
And if we don’t, well that is not God’s problem, but our faith problem.
I affirm both God’s great power and God’s good purpose, and trust them completely.
I may not like what His good purpose means, and may ask Him to find another way.
But like Jesus, I can trust that my Abba knows best.
I have my own “thorns” (2 Corinthians 11:7-9) I’ve asked God to change.
Some He has changed, others He has not… He has other purposes!
One day, like Jesus, I will see the other side of this, and thank God.
As a Jesus follower, I choose to trust His great power and good purpose.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I do not like the “thorns” in my life. Thank You for showing me the way of surrender… but please help me surrender like You. I can’t do it on my own.

Take it all to God in prayer.
Our joys and our sorrows.
A basic ingredient of prayer is in the last verse of today’s reading
‘not what I will, but what you will.’
The same is said in the Lord’s prayer
‘Thy will be done.’
In tough situations I would pray, Lord take this from me.
Christ, Who was like me, did pray and asked for the situation to change and yet He prayed that God’s will be done. Not His.
At all times my prayers must be the same – not my will but His will be done.
Always.
Prayerfully I go forward this day in Jesus’ name.
God is fighting for us
