THE STORY OF JESUS: 1 Samuel 28-31
“But David found strength in the Lord his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6)
In times of crisis, tragedy or difficulty, where do you find strength?
Most people cry out to God in such times, but they do not always find strength.
Why does God strengthen some, but not others?
Why was God silent when Saul was looking for help (1 Samuel 28:6)?
There are no simple rules or explanations, God’s ways are mysterious.
But one thing to consider is where we find strength when things are going well.
Saul was content to do things his own way when things were going well.
He had moved away from God; is it any wonder he couldn’t easily find God?
As we see in the Psalms, David found strength in the Lord in good and bad times.
Jesus models a daily abiding with God, an ongoing relationship of love and trust.
Throughout His ministry Jesus found strength in God His Father.
“Early in the morning Jesus went to a solitary place where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
Jesus gently asks me – am I abiding with Him always, or only when I need Him?
If things are good today, will I still spend time with the Lord, finding strength in Him?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, life without You will unravel. Teach me through Saul and David that it is better to find my strength in You always, and not only when things go wrong.
Where is your help?
My help is in the Lord my God. I need to seek His face each day anew. I need to walk daily in His presence. He is the Source of my strength and enables me each day to do His will.
Every day I need to come into His presence to live for Jesus.
I need to find meaning and strength in the Lord and not in myself nor in the visions of mankind.
I am His and He is mine
and His power over me is love.
I need daily to find my strength in the Lord
and therefore
I need to ‘dress’ myself each day with the armour of God.
I need to listen to His Voice saying
‘This is the Way.
Follow Me.’
The Lord is mine and I am His,
His banner over me is love.
The Lord is mine and I am His,
His banner over me is love.
The Lord is mine and I am His,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
He brought me to His banqueting table,
His banner over me is love.
He brought me to His banqueting table,
His banner over me is love.
He brought me to His banqueting table,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
He lifted me up into heavenly places,
His banner over me is love.
He lifted me up into heavenly places,
His banner over me is love.
He lifted me up into heavenly places,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
He is the vine and we are the branches,
His banner over me is love.
He is the vine and we are the branches,
His banner over me is love.
He is the vine and we are the branches,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
Jesus is the rock of my salvation,
His banner over me is love.
Jesus is the rock of my salvation,
His banner over me is love.
Jesus is the rock of my salvation,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
There’s one way to peace through the power of the cross,
His banner over me is love,
There’s one way to peace through the power of the cross,
His banner over me is love,
There’s one way to peace through the power of the cross,
His banner over me is love.
His banner over me is love!
