We shall be like Him!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 8:23-27
“What kind of man is this?” (Matthew 8:27)
This was the million dollar question everyone was asking.
He defied all categories and definitions.
Personally I do not think Jesus was a ‘superman’.
Many Christians assume He had His powers because He was God.
But the God-ness of Jesus was fully hidden or restrained.
“Being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” (Philippians 2:6-7)
Jesus was actually fully human, what a NORMAL human being ought to be.
He was as Adam was, as we were meant to be, and as we will one day be again.
God gave authority to Adam and Eve over creation… “even the winds and the waves obey him!” (v.27)
I don’t expect that we will all be snapping our fingers to make creation do our bidding.
This would not be “very good”; we will direct creation in a “very good”, God-like manner.
One day God and humans and creation will live in mutual love, joy and peace.
The creation will not longer groan, but rejoice, because the children of God are revealed! (Romans 8:19-21)
I do not deny the “fully God” nature behind Jesus, but that is not Who we are meant to see.
We are meant to see the “fully human” Jesus, just like us, so that we can become just like Him.
This is why I focus on the Gospels, why most of my attention in this blog is on Jesus.
“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.” (1 John 3:2-3)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are not some ‘super’ man, You are ‘normal’ man, the way we were meant to be. In You I see my destiny, and it is my desire to be like You!

  1. Walking with Jesus.
The disciples. Todays Jesus followers. I.
We all face storms – storms in our lives. Just because we walk with Him does not mean that we will not face storms/difficulties. How do I listen to the voice of Jesus? How do I find calm in the centre of the storm? Take hold of God. Trust His promises. Living with Jesus is eternal living with Him. The storms refines us. Stand firm. Stand on the promises of God. He is our Refuge at all times and in all things.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

    Refrain

    Standing, standing,
    Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
    Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

    Refrain

Standing on the promises I now can see
    Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.

    Refrain

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.

    Refrain

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
