For You, God!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Matthew 6:1-4
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4)
Some people do good for good’s sake; some do it to look good.
Jesus is not saying every good deed needs to be hidden, unknown.
He is challenging the selfish motive that some people have in doing good.
God knows our heart, He knows whether we love for love’s sake, or for self-love.
People will see the goodness of God in our lives, and will see God as a result.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
But if being seen by others is our only desire, that will be our only reward.
God’s smile is for those who love goodness, who love people, who love Him…
… regardless of what others see or say.
The greatest reward for the child of God is to sense the smile on God’s face.
In our alone time with God, we bask in His love and affirmation, we glow in His glow.
Our desire is that God is glorified – by us and through us – this is our reward.
I am not fully there yet, I still have mixed motives.
But I am heeding Jesus warning to be careful – thoughtful – about this.
Pay attention to my motives, bring them to the Father.
Let Him know that you want to want to do good for the right reasons.
This will put a smile on His face, and a glow in your heart!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, this is my desire, to do good whether people see it or know it or not.
