God’s blessing continues…

THE STORY OF JESUS: Genesis 25:19-28:9
“I blessed him — and indeed he will be blessed!” (Genesis 27:33)
The blessing of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3) is at the heart of this book.
In fact, the story of the bible is how God blesses us despite our unworthiness.
The ‘heroes’ of the bible are not better than others, they are ordinary sinners.
And yet God’s blessing still flows, we still are blessed beyond our deserving.
“He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:10)
Its not that God blesses sin; He still resists sin and works to convict and convert sinners.
But just because we sin, it does not mean we lose the blessing.
There is always grace, there is always hope for the worst of sinners.
“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!”(Romans 6:1-2)
Grace is not an excuse to sin, it offers us hope when we realize how bad sin really is.
Sin complicates how we receive God’s blessing, we make His blessing harder to enjoy.
Like the blessing, sin also affects subsequent generations.
Abraham lies about his wife, Isaac does too; Jacob deceives his father, his sons will deceive him too.
Thankfully, we also pass on God’s grace, and the hope of forgiveness, the possibility of blessing.
God has blessed us – deceivers that we are – and indeed we will be blessed.
But we increase or decrease our enjoyment of that blessing by how we live.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, though I do not deserve it, I see Your hand of blessing in my life. Forgive me for complicating my enjoyment of Your grace by my foolish choices.
