Do the right thing!

“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3)
To be righteous or upright means to be committed to doing the right thing.
This assumes a belief in right and wrong, but what about when society rejects this?
We are living in a time when absolute morality is denied.
Without a moral anchor, we are increasingly being tossed in moral ambiguity and confusion.
Those with deep moral convictions find themselves challenged, or mocked.
We are tempted to change, to compromise, to loosen up, to be ‘free’!
Or we are attacked, accused of intolerance, treated with suspicion or viewed as judgmental.
“What can the righteous do?” (v.3)
Doing the right thing is always right, even if no one else joins us.
Choosing to live and love “like God” is the definition of rightness, or righteousness.
If we look up to God as our guide, and stay true to Him, we will be vindicated in the end.
“The upright will see his face.” (Psalm 11:7)
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
Make ‘doing the right thing, no matter what’ the goal and foundation of your life.
Though we won’t do it perfectly, we’ll get closer than if we don’t try at all.
Rely on Jesus for guidance and support, as He models “upright” living for us.
God is God, truth is truth, right is right and wrong is wrong – whether we accept it or not.
Better to strive to build our lives on this foundation, even if it makes life challenging.
We aim for God and goodness, albeit imperfectly, and in the end we will see God!
No matter what happens, do your best to do the right thing!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, it is not always easy to know what the right thing to do is. But I have to at least try. Forgive me when I get it wrong, and help me learn to more and more get it right!

  1. Trust in God.
    Trust in His promises.
When difficulties come all too often we trust in our own feelings, and get overwhelmed. But where should my focus be? On the situation or the Lord? I need to learn to stand on His truth alone rather than just what my eyes see.. I need to stand on the promises of God – always.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
    Standing, standing,
    Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
    Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
    2
Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
    3
Standing on the promises I now can see
    Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
    4
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
    5
Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God.
