Shut up Satan!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Psalm 6
“Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.” (Psalm 6:8)
I love how brutally honest and real the psalms are.
God inspired David to express these raw, real emotions.
God wants us to see David struggling, doing battle against his tormentors.
Notice how David yells at them – “Away from me!” – warning them that God is on his side.
I’m reminded of Jesus boldly stating, “Get behind me Satan!” (Matthew 16:23)
James also urges us to “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
Get angry, but not at God; put sin, suffering and evil in its place.
Come to God humbly and desperately, just as you are, emotions and all.
But do not come to the Enemy this way, stand up to him and put him in his place.
You don’t have to pretend that it is easy, but don’t see it as hopeless.
Satan wants nothing more than to convince you that he has the upper hand.
If he can get you to submit to his lies, he knows you won’t submit to God’s truth.
Like Jesus, submit honestly and humbly to God (“my God, my God, why have You forsaken me?”).
Like Jesus, resist the devil with boldness and hope (“get behind me Satan”).
In other words, worship God (He is the greatest!), not Satan (he is not!).
“The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.” (Psalm 6:9)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are on my side, even when it seems no one else (or nothing else) is. With You I say, ‘shut up Satan, I belong to Jesus!’

  1. Satan is a jerk 😉
But yes I too love the Psalms. The realness and authenticity in it. It reminds me why I like to be raw and honest about the struggles. It is SO real. I needed this reminder because I have to remember where I’m putting my own anger at. Is it at God or Satan? Satan says God is the one who doesn’t love me and has let me down because of blah blah blah but that’s where I have to say shut up Satan to his face (maybe not as bodly as I like) but realizing what is true and that’s I belong to Jesus too.
