My part in the harmony

THE STORY OF JESUS: Romans 12:9-16
“Live in harmony with one another.” (Romans 12:16)
As a band director, I can appreciate good harmony.
As an elementary school band director, I get bad harmony.
When the instruments are in tune, and play what the music says… beautiful.
All that Paul says hereĀ fits in this line, “live in harmony with one another!”
If we were in tune with each other, whether rejoicing or mourning.
If we were hospitable and shared with this in need.
If we loved sincerely, were devoted to each other, and honored others over ourselves.
If we were not proud or conceited, but associated equally with all people.
And if we blessed those who persecuted us.
This would be beautiful music in Jesus’ ears, and in ours too.
We all wish we could be a part of this kind of band.
But Paul does not urge us to look for a better band.
He urges us to tune our own instrument, follow the music as written by God.
The Spirit is prompting you and me today: “Live in harmony with one another.” (Romans 12:16)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, show me the ways that I am playing out of tune and harmony. May the way I handle people – the good, the bad, the easy, the hard – reflect how You handle me!
