THE STORY OF JESUS: Romans 7:1-6
“You also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another.” (Romans 7:4)
God created us to have is law of love in our hearts.
“Sin” rejects the law, but it does not get rid of it.
Now it hangs over us, always reminding us of our failure and shame.
Try as we might, we always fall short of the perfection we were made for.
Every infraction of the law is held against us, increasing our guilt and punishment.
Being under the law is like being married to an abusive spouse.
Satan taunts us with our failure, mocks our attempts to free ourselves.
Through temptation he lures us deeper into his web, deeper into despair and death.
“Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil — and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:14-15)
This is what we need, to be set free from Satan, sin and death, to be restored to God.
Jesus becomes human (like Adam, like us) to break Satan’s hold on us, and set us free.
He resists Satan’s tempting, He refuses to sin, He submits to death (undeserved) and rises up from it.
Because of Jesus, we are free from the claim of Satan, sin, death and hell.
Free from the condemnation of the Law, free from the fear of judgment.
Satan still tempts, sin still happens, death still comes — but they’ve lost their sting, their grip.
I belong to Jesus, and as we will see, NOTHING can separate me from His love.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, despite all my weakness, my failure, my sin and my shame, I belong to You. Satan’s tempting and taunting may slow me down, but they cannot stop me. I am forgiven. I am free. I belong to You!
