THE STORY OF JESUS: Acts 1:12-14
“They all joined together constantly in prayer.” (Acts 1:14)
Did not Jesus tell them to go witness – so why are they just praying?
Actually Jesus told them to “wait for the gift” of the Spirit. (Acts 1:4)
Once received, the Spirit would them propel them outwards as witnesses.
And reading the book of Acts, we see that this is exactly what happened.
There is a sense that we need to both wait and go.
We have nothing to share, nothing to witness to, unless we receive it from God.
We rely 100% on His grace and power at work in and through us.
But we are not waiting for God to give us His blessing – He already has.
We need to wait until we realize that we need His blessing, and are lost without it.
To be constantly in prayer for them was waiting for the Spirit… until the Spirit came.
Now we are constantly in prayer as we working with the Spirit.
We pray before we go, we pray while we go, we pray after we go.
We pray before we serve or witness, while we serve or witness, after we serve or witness.
We are constantly dependent on Him, our confidence is in what He will do.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Am I praying constantly through my day – before, during and after whatever I’m doing?
I need to both wait AND go, pray and work, trust and obey… for He will work through me!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, teach me the meaning of waiting and going, of relying on You before, during and after. May my prayer not be an alternative to action, but an incentive to action!
