The other “Good Book”

THE STORY OF JESUS: Esther 2:19-23
“All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king.” (Esther 2:23)
If we knew everything we did was recorded, would that change our actions?
Imagine what you did yesterday – everything – was put in the public record.
Actually everything we do is being recorded.
Police can track where we’ve been looking at our phone signals.
Our web activity is traceable, if someone really wants to know, they could dig it up.
Most of what we do is witnessed by someone, recorded in their memories if need be.
And apparently God keeps a book as well…
“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalm 139:16)
In this case, Mordecai’s saving the king is recorded, and as we will see it comes back to help him later.
People may not be keeping notes on us, but people do see our lives, they recall what kind of people we are.
When we do good in Jesus’ Name, though it may not always be noticed, it will come back to bless us.
And when we do something bad, though it may not always be known, it will come back to haunt us.
Use your life to make Jesus look good, to show people what goodness looks like.
As someone said, ‘Remember, you may be the only bible that someone may read.”
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” (1 Peter 2:12)
This is not possible on our our, but God sent Jesus to help us.
“Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
If life is a book, make yours a good one!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, the story of my life has many twists and turns. Thank You for helping me write a better story, and for guaranteeing a happy ending.

  1. Observations/Application
    Listening.
    Doing.
    Going the way in which you are raised – following instructions of a Godly ‘father.’
    Mordecai in his position had his ear to the ground and did what was right – saving God’s appointed ruler. Those in power have been placed there by His doing and we must serve as long as it is not contrary to His Word.
    Do good.
    Actions speak louder than words?
    Christians are ‘living letters’ read by all.
    We are living epistles.
    How do others read me – my life style, my activities, my serving my Maker?
    May what I do and say be a living witness that I serve a risen Saviour, Jesus Christ, my Lord.

    All for Jesus, all for Jesus!
    All my being’s ransomed powers:
    All my thoughts and words and doings,
    All my days and all my hours.

    Refrain

    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours;
    All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
    All my days and all my hours.

    Let my hands perform His bidding,
    Let my feet run in His ways;
    Let my eyes see Jesus only,
    Let my lips speak forth His praise.

    Refrain

    Worldlings prize their gems of beauty,
    Cling to gilded toys of dust,
    Boast of wealth and fame and pleasure;
    Only Jesus will I trust.

    Refrain

    Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
    I’ve lost sight of all beside;
    So enchained my spirit’s vision,
    Looking at the Crucified.

    Refrain

    Oh, what wonder! how amazing!
    Jesus, glorious King of kings,
    Deigns to call me His belovèd,
    Lets me rest beneath His wings.
