The promised messiah!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 15:61-65
“You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:62)
For the religious leaders, Jesus left no doubt who He thought He was.
“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:13-14)
This is one of many promises in the Jewish bible regarding the coming Saviour.
One like us, from God, that will restore God’s creation kingdom.
This is what we need, what all creation and all people of all ages long for.
This makes Jesus the central character in the bible story, from Genesis to Revelation.
It was supposed to be us – humans – but we blew it bad… look at the mess we made.
Making foolish choices, treating people with injustice and cruelty, disregarding God’s heart and will.
Sadly these religious leaders are following the way of folly and sin .
But thankfully, this is exactly what is needed to confirm Jesus’ messianic role.
He remains true to God and humanity despite sinful pressure – and proves Himself God’s faithful son.
Condemned and beaten by the world court, Jesus is honoured and vindicated by the heavenly court.
“Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (Acts 2:36)
Jesus is the hope of the world, and the hope for each and every one of us.
Like the religious leaders, we are hearing this claim… how do we respond?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, You are the promised One, the One we need, the One we long for. Come quickly, Lord, and restore the kingdom we were made for.

  1. Observations/Application
    I am reminded once again of the passage
    – eyes they have but do not see. Ears they have but do not hear.
    How often do we insist upon our own way. We are in the right because we can not see the Truth in front of us? Once again, the blind are leading the blind – like mob rule but this time it is in the religious courts meeting in secret in the dark to hide their evil schemes.
    I need to be a witness of the cross and not hide in the closet covering up my secret sins. I too need to show the love of Jesus around me. He is our LifeLine Who died so that you and I could live forevermore.
    Help me to go forward in that power also this day Lord.

    The whole world was lost
    In the darkness of sin,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    Like sunshine at noonday,
    His glory shone in.
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    Refrain

    Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
    Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.
    Once I was blind, but now I can see:
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    No darkness have we
    Who in Jesus abide;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    We walk in the light
    When we follow our Guide!
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    Refrain

    Ye dwellers in darkness
    With sin blinded eyes,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    Go, wash, at His bidding,
    And light will arise.
    The Light of the world is Jesus!

    Refrain

    No need of the sunlight
    In Heaven we’re told;
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
    The Lamb is the Light
    In the city of gold,
    The Light of the world is Jesus!
