Thank you… Dad!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 14:32-36
“Abba, Father, everything is possible for you.” (Mark 14:36)
Jesus relates to the all-powerful sovereign God very personally.
He uses the Aramaic word that a child would use for their father: abba, daddy dad.
Think about how Prince George and Princess Charlotte speak to their parents.
Not with their titles, Prince William or Princess Kate, but as daddy and mommy.
They have the right to do this because they are their children.
Jesus has this right, as God’s Son, but amazingly, so do we!
“To those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)
We are in close relationship with Jesus as our Brother, and God as our Father.
The Spirit of God and Jesus lives IN us, they are at home with us. (John 14:23)
The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.'” (Romans 8:15)
Look at Jesus talks to God: He bears His whole heart, He cries in fear in desperation.
He pleads with God to change His mind, and He does this repeatedly.
Never with disrespect, but with complete honesty.
Yet He knows His Father is all-powerful, and always good, and surrenders to His will.
Do you talk to God and Jesus like this, with complete honesty and loving surrender?
God is Your Dad, and Jesus is Your Brother – and nothing is impossible for them.
Surrender your hopes, dreams and desperate pleas to Him, and rest in His loving good will.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Jesus, I have prayed to You as Lord all these years, it seems disrespectful to call you by Name. And somehow calling God ‘Father’ seems more appropriate than ‘Dad’. Thank You for bringing me into the family so that I can talk this way. And thank You to… Dad!

  1. Observations/Application
How do I face trial and testing?
Remember Jesus being tempted at the start of His ministry. He used the Word of God.
Now Jesus was facing the worst temptation of His life – the death on the cross for our salvation. And He looked to God for strength to do what the Father had planned for Him. I need to go to the same place when tempted – to God in prayer and share with my Father and ask for His strengthening powers. Take it to te Lord in prayer. Be faithful to Him to the end.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer!

    Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

    Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Savior, still our refuge—
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
    Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
