Familiar with all my ways!

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 14:27-31
“Truly I tell you… you yourself will disown me three times.” (Mark 14:30)
Jesus knows each one of us very well.
He knows our gifts, and He knows our weakness.
He has been working with Peter for three years.
He has heard seen his self-confidence, his bravado.
He has known me for 50 years, does anything I do surprise Him?
He knows how I handle pressure, where my buttons are and what it takes to push.
He’s watched me handle Satan’s tricks and temptations – or not – and knows what messes me up.
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” (Psalm 139:1-6)
This is disconcerting, until you remember that He still loves me.
Despite what He knows about me, like Peter He is willing to work with me, and use me for His kingdom.
Instead of denying my weakness, like Peter (I will never disown You!”, v.31), follow David’s example:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
Admit your weakness and struggle to Him, He knows it anyway.
Only by admitting it can we find His help in overcoming it.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, what can I say, You know… I cannot hide, I will not hide. Here I am. Help me, use me, change me.

  1. Observations/Application
    Jesus knows us.
We think that we are strong, able to do mighty things in our own strength. Self confidence. Relying on no one but ourselves. Pride.
It is when we fail and brought low we realize that we need help – a helper – a Saviour who supplies all of our needs. Christ prepared Peter for service. He continues also today His people to serve Him in their weaknesses for He has made them strong.
If I rely upon my self I will fail.
When I walk with God, He will make me strong – more than a conqueror.

If we in our own strength confide
    Our striving would be losing
Unless God’s man is on our side
The man of God’s own choosing
You ask who that may be
    Christ Jesus, it is He
The Lord of Hosts, His name
From age to age the same
And He must win the battle
