THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 14:6-11
“Wherever the gospel is preached… what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (Mark 14:9)
Two people are mentioned here, Mary (John 12:3) and Judas.
Jesus says that she will be remembered for her beautiful act.
But it seems to me that Judas is remembered more than Mary.
Why should we remember her act of love and devotion when we preach the gospel?
My guess is that her act sheds light on Jesus’ sacrificial act.
From start to finish, it is all about the sacrifice of love.
Religion is not meant to be about power, or position, or wealth, or glory.
Judas could not get past that, and he turned on Jesus.
Love for God, love for people – this is how Jesus lived, and what He inspired.
Do we become messengers of love, or messengers of fear?
When we represent Jesus as Christians, are people inspired to love, or to fear?
The story of Judas is tragic, but it does not inspire people towards hope.
Let’s remember Mary when we remember Jesus, as a reflection of God’s love revealed in Jesus.
Actually, let’s do more than remember, let’s join her with our own acts of devotion.
Let’s give the world more reasons to remember love when they think of us, when they think of Jesus.
We can be ‘good news’ as we share the ‘good news’ of Jesus, like Mary.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, may this act of love point me to Your act of love, and inspire me to join in, so that others may remember Your love when they see me in action.
Observations/Application
What is on the inside becomes visible on the outside through actions. Our loving = knowing = doing. Mary showed her love for the Master by her act of gratitude and those who were upset be her extravagant act were greedy. We can never outmatch what the Lord God has done for us. No greater love has one than to give up his life for his neighbour.
we do not know what motivated Judas but he refused to accept Jesus for who He was.
God uses His people His wonders o perform. I can be an instrument of good or evil – serving God or Satan.
Fill me with the attitude of gratitude with altitude Lord, to love and serve You as You have taught.
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your
love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord
And where there’s doubt, true faith in
you.
Chorus:
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring
hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy.
Chorus:
Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we’re born to eternal
life.
Chorus:
