Why do you call me ‘Son of God’?

THE STORY OF JESUS: Mark 3:7-12
“Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” (Mark 3:11)
The crowds are starting to wonder, is this the One we’ve been waiting for?
The Son of David, the Son of Man, the Son of God, the Messiah?
The demons don’t wonder, they know.
The reason they scream this out is because they want to turn the crowds into a frenzy.
Whip up their emotions, turn them into extremists, ready to fight Rome.
Afterall, this is what the Son of God was here for, to save them!
Jesus knows that time will heal them of their messianic confusion.
He is not here to start a social revolution, but an inward revolution.
He is not the Son of God they’re hoping for.
But He is the Son of God we need, the One who addresses our real problems.
I wonder sometimes if many Christians today have mistaken ideas about our Saviour.
They look to Him for health, for wealth, for happiness…
We like forgiveness, we like healing, we like heaven…
Not the hard life of humility, grace, mercy, self-denial, servanthood, the way of the cross.
Even though many people fall down and say ‘You are the Son of God’, what do we mean?
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)

What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, it is not up to me to judge other people. Today I hear You asking me, ‘what does it mean to YOU that I am the Son of God’?

  1. Observations/Application
People followed Jesus because they were curious and/or they wanted healing. Mob control – the crowd was large and to control the crowd and the crowding of Jesus, a small boat was on standby. An escape or a platform from which to tell His story so all could hear. He healed many – the reason many of the people came.
The demons cries show that they knew Christ but they were not Jesus’ allies and Jesus did not want them to influence God’s timetable. All had to be in God’s time and therefore stay silent.
Jesus does heal also today whether physical or spiritual. I need to come to Him and put myself under His control. He is the answer. His healing is still here today. Sometimes He takes the disease from us and other times He takes us from the disease. And I too need to be a Jesus follower and hear His Word and apply it to my daily living.
Jesus is the answer to true life and even the demons knew that.

    All to Jesus I surrender,
    All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.
    I surrender all,
    I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
    I surrender all.
