The Lord’s will be done!

SCRIPTURE: Acts 21:1-16
“When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, ‘The Lord’s will be done.'” (Acts 21:14)
Paul feels Spirit-led to go to Jerusalem, even though he will suffer.
Everyone urges him not to go, even Luke and Silas (Acts 21:12).
This only makes it harder for Paul, his heart breaks with their tearful appeals.
I have had times when I was pleading for someone, hoping to change their path or direction.
And it has not always been because they felt called by the Lord to do what they were doing.
In the end, we cannot enforce our will on others, they need to choose for themselves.
And hopefully, they will choose for God’s will in the end.
In the meantime, we can pray that the Lord’s will will be done.
Now technically, this is always true, God’s ultimate will is always done.
But this is more than just resignation to the ultimate will of God.
It is an earnest prayer that God’s kingdom will would be done… on earth as it is in heaven.
That justice would be served, evil thwarted, Jesus honoured, and God’s kingdom come.
May God’s best for the world be realized through Paul’s life and experience.
May God’s good purpose be served in my loved one’s life.
May the path that they are on lead them to the Lord, and to His purpose for their life.
I pray this for my loved ones when I cannot dissuade them from unhelpful choices.
This is not resignation, this is intercession: ‘The Lord’s will be done!!!’
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, if I want the best for the ones I love, You want it even more, and not only for them but for everyone. Help me to pray ‘Your will be done’ with passion and determination, because it is the best prayer of all!

  1. Observations/Application
    On the road again.
While traveling, they sought out the disciples there. Wherever we go, we need one another to encourage eachother, to fellowship together. Hospitality at all times. The Christian community.
Spirit driven, they could not change Paul’s mind and so they prayerfully sent him on his way. This practice continues when missionaries go to the field and their sendoff is done prayerfully at the airport.
Knowing what lies ahead, Paul continues his journey doing the Lord’s will for his life. He did not travel alone. Community support and encouragement for the journey. Oneanothering. All walking in the Way.
Spirit driven. God lead. In tune with the Voice saying, ‘This is the Way.’
Open my ears Lord that I may hear You.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
I am looking, I am listening
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Help me to know Your will (repeat)

    The right word to say,
    the best move to make
Who’s in need of a helping hand
For Your perfect ways are worthy of praise
I delight just to do Your plan

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
I am looking, I am listening
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Help me to know Your will (repeat to beginning)

Help me to know Your will

Help me to know Your will

Stopping along the way, he found fellowship with fellow believers – disciples each time.
