Living the good life!

SCRIPTURE: 2 Peter 2-3
“Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?” (2 Peter 3:11)
Peter started his letter by reminding us that we have everything we need to succeed for God.
He then describes the people who devoted their lives to immorality (ch.2), and the coming judgment (ch.3).
God is rebuilding His “very good” world, and only the “good” will remain when He is done.
This is why we need to strive, with His Spirit’s help, to add goodness, etc. to our faith.
Peter is concerned that many Jesus followers are getting lax, careless, reckless in their morals.
“Be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.” (2 Peter 3:17)
I sense laxity in Christians today too; more concerned about personal pleasure than eternal goodness.
And our children’s generation goes further, even less concerned about moral boundaries than we are.
In our day, everything and everyone is ‘good’ just as we are, no need to repent, to change, to grow.
Not to be a doom and gloomer, but I anticipate that things are going to get even worse in the next decades.
“Understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.” (2 Peter 3:3)
The point of this warning is not to make you judgmental or negative, but to stimulate wholesome thinking.
To light the fire in your heart for growing in your faith, becoming more like Jesus.
As our world gets darker and darker, we need more light.
For this reason, “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 3:18)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, it is because of sin and selfishness that our world is in such a sorry state. Help me to see that good living -with Your help – is the key to the good life, and a good eternity.

    The enemy is also within.
    Be on guard. StandStrong so that the truth prevails. Stay the course. Listen to His voice saying ‘This is the Way. Walk in it.’ God will lead. As always, He is the Saviour. Be His follower rather than the wayward. StandStrong. GodStrong.
    Live for Jesus each and every day in all you do and say. Jesus follower all the way. Eyes focussed on Him for He is the Perfecter of my faith. Grace and Truth shall mark the Way. God did and will lead His own. Turn your eyes toward ‘home’ and travel each day with Him. ‘Pilgrim’s Progress’ – journey toward ‘Jerusalem’.
    I must walk with my Saviour each and every day for He will lead and guide me in the Way.

    All the way my Savior leads me;
    What have I to ask beside?
    Can I doubt His tender mercy,
    Who through life has been my Guide?
    Heav’ly peace, divinest comfort,
    Here by faith in Him to dwell!
    For I know, whate’er befall me,
    Jesus doeth all things well;
    For I know, whate’er befall me,
    Jesus doeth all things well.

    All the way my Savior leads me,
    Cheers each winding path I tread;
    Gives me grace for every trial,
    Feeds me with the living Bread.
    Though my weary steps may falter,
    And my soul athirst may be,
    Gushing from the Rock before me,
    Lo! A spring of joy I see;
    Gushing from the Rock before me,
    Lo! A spring of joy I see.

    All the way my Savior leads me
    O the fullness of His love!
    Perfect rest to me is promised
    In my Father’s house above.
    When my spirit, clothed immortal,
    Wings its flight to realms of day
    This my song through endless ages
    Jesus led me all the way;
    This my song through endless ages
    Jesus led me all the way.
