Getting rid of sin

SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 4-5
“Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” (1 Corinthians 5:7)
Today is actually Passover, so this verse is fitting.
Paul refers to the spiritual meaning of Passover: getting rid of the sin that ruins us.
As a little yeast penetrates the whole loaf, a little sin penetrates our whole life.
Paul’s is challenging the Corinthians on different ways they are tolerating sin.
Jesus died (like the Passover Lamb) because of the poison of sin.
Obviously we cannot stop sinning completely, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t resist it.
Be aware of the subtle ways that greed, deceit, pride, lust, etc. penetrates and ruins your life.
When we make little compromises, we hurt ourselves and others too.
Jesus has assured us that God’s forgiveness covers our sin – He died to prove it.
But He has also given us His Spirit to help us change the direction of our life.
Make it your daily commitment to put sin to death as best you can.
Yesterday was Good Friday – Jesus died because of sin.
Tomorrow is Easter Sunday – Jesus rose victorious over the curse of sin and death.
Will I – by my relationship to sin – choose to stay in the shadow of the curse or the light of resurrection?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, sin kills… subtly, slowly but surely. You know this from experience. Help me to put sin to death in my life wherever I can, and cleanse me from the many ways I still sin.
