I am preparing for a series of messages based on the top-selling and controversial fictional novel, “The Shack” by William P. Young. These messages, beginning Sunday, Nov 30, will be a part of our anticipation of Christmas, or the celebration of the birth of Jesus. I will post links to the sermons here.
If you haven’t read the book yet, now is a good time to borrow a copy from someone. It is also good to find some helpful reviews of the book. But beware, there are many and varied opinions about the book, some wholeheartedly positive and some vehemently negative.
It might also be interesting to check out some of the articles and reviews posted here:
- Meeting God at the Shack by Syd Hielema
- The Story Behind the Shack by Ted Wilcox
- Freedom Is an Incremental Process: A Faith Today interview with William Paul Young by Karen Stiller
- The Shack Review – At Length by Bob Hyatt
- The Shack – Recommendation and Review by Michael Spencer
Pick any or all or none of these. Only what is helpful. As usual, I am also open to feedback.
Here is a video discussion with the author…
The day I read this post The Shack had come up at the end of my Christian College class.
I was told by fellow students that the book was heresy and that the author was an atheist. This from people who had been told so by a pastor but had not read it them selves.
I was surprised because I know a number of people who have so appreciated this book.
I was glad of the opportunity to read the reviews. I now understand the controversy better.
I think those of us looking to go deeper in our personal relationship with God can learn much from The Shack.
It saddens me that people who see things as black or white with no grey, will miss the good of the book.
of course there are issues…but that is okay.
I would like to hear your sermons…
