It is finished!

SCRIPTURE: John 19:28-37
‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30)
For His whole life, Jesus was under attack.
Satan was doing everything he could to get this ‘Adam’ (human) to fail.
Every trick in the book was used against Jesus, but Jesus stood firm.
Unlike all other sons of Adam and daughters of Eve, this one finally beats Satan.
He stays true to God to the end, and now the battle is finished, His task is done.
The last enemy thrown at Him is death; He dies a sinners death, but not because He is a sinner.
Therefore death cannot hold Him, and spirit of life is restored to Him (Genesis 2:7).
God breathes the breathe of life into His dust-only body, and He becomes a living being again.
Once again, an ‘Adam’ is declared the son of God (Luke 3:37, Romans 1:4).
All authority is restored to this ‘Adam’ (Matthew 28:18-20), as Genesis 1:26-28 intended.
God’s kingdom is restored, and we are welcome to receive it, as sons and daughters of God.
Now with Jesus’ help, we are called to live ‘like God’, and to resist the Enemy.
At the end of our lives, we will say ‘it is finished’, and pass from death to life.
We will be resurrected, and enter into God’s ‘very good’ new creation.
“The kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” (Genesis 1:26-28, Matthew 25:34)
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for finishing Your task, that I may be restored to mine. Help me with Your Spirit to fulfill and finish my task, and enter into the kingdom planned from the very beginning!

  1. Observation/Application
The Roman practice was to leave the body on the cross for days, but even the law of Moses did not permit the body of a man to be hung on a tree over night. Therefor the breaking of the bones so those on the cross would die faster and be dead especially before the Sabbath. Christ was already dead, and to make doubly sure, the soldier pierced His side. All this was a fulfillment of His Word.
The cross is the key to life everlasting – a sign pf God’s mercy and forgiveness. I must be a follower of the cross – a Christ follower – because then and only then do I have the joy of the Lord God Who is my Strength and Song to enjoy each day in joy walking in His SonShine.

The joy of the Lord is my strength,
the joy of the Lord is my strength,
The joy of the Lord is my strength,
the joy of the Lord is my strength.

He heals the broken hearted and they cry no more,
He heals the broken hearted and they cry no more.
He heals the broken hearted and they cry no more,
the joy of the Lord is my strength.

He gives me living water and I thirst no more,
He gives me living water and I thirst no more.
He gives me living water and I thirst no more,
the joy of the Lord is my strength.
