Not ashamed of Jesus

SCRIPTURE: John 18:12-18
“I am He,” (John 18:4) … “I am not.” (John 18:17)
Am I with Jesus or not?
Recently a pastor friend admitted his discomfort telling people about Jesus.
Outside of the church that is, where people might think less of him.
To be dishonest I share a similar discomfort, though for slightly different reasons.
I’m more uncomfortable to be associated with the church.
I don’t want to be viewed as a religious nut-case.
Instead of worrying about this, I should focus on what makes Jesus great.
And show them by my love that I am not a religious nut-case.
I do believe that Jesus is the hope of the world (not the church).
I do believe that Jesus is worth knowing and following.
So quit hiding because of the church, and start boasting about Jesus!
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, forgive us for being poor representatives and witnesses for You. Make me bold to share how great You are.

  1. Sometimes when I’m about to share Jesus with others, I too feel that something is holding me back. Especially to my group of friends who don’t believe. Though then I have to ask myself am I being egocentric? These people I love should know about Jesus because he fills that empty hole that the world cannot. Though, I cannot push it on them but have to reflect his light and love through me so that they say “hey, what does she got I don’t”? You are not a religious nut, but you are a Jesus loving nut and there’s a big difference. That’s why I don’t associate myself with that word religious or religions. It’s about the relationship I have with my Saviour 🙂

  2. Observation/Application
    Jesus was brought to Annas first because he was most likely very powerful and was the high priest. And yet . . . he was there through corrupt means even getting family members in the in crowd. The irony is that these ‘religious’ men by corrupt means yet speak the truth for Jesus did have to die in order to save the people from their sin. The mysterious ways of God at work in order to accomplish His purposes.

    God moves in a mysterious way
    His wonders to perform;
    He plants His footsteps in the sea
    And rides upon the storm.

    Deep in unfathomable mines
    Of never failing skill
    He treasures up His bright designs
    And works His sovereign will.

    Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
    The clouds ye so much dread
    Are big with mercy and shall break
    In blessings on your head.

    Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
    But trust Him for His grace;
    Behind a frowning providence
    He hides a smiling face.

    His purposes will ripen fast,
    Unfolding every hour;
    The bud may have a bitter taste,
    But sweet will be the flower.

    Blind unbelief is sure to err
    And scan His work in vain;
    God is His own interpreter,
    And He will make it plain.
