Challenge my heart

SCRIPTURE: John 6:66-71
“Yet one of you is a devil!” (John 6:70)
Are there devils in the church?
Wolves in sheep’s clothing, pretending to be believers?
This is a reminder to all of us that the church is not perfect.
We should not be surprised when scandals occur in the church.
The sad thing is that many people reject Jesus because of the church’s failures.
The failure of Christians, or even the church, does not mean the failure of Jesus.
As a grace community, the church is a place where people come as they are.
The hope is that they will be transformed by grace, changed to be more like Jesus.
I am a sinner, just like you, and everyone else.
Jesus accepts me just as I am.
But He will not allow me to stay just as I am.
He loves me too much to leave me in the devil’s grip.
Jesus challenges Judas many times like this, to help him change.
But Judas would not open his heart to Jesus’ grace.
Is my heart open to Jesus’ grace?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, I know the sins that still stain my heart. You know them too. Keep on challenging me, that I may change.

  1. Observation/Application
    Jesus is the answer.
    Many left to find their own salvation.
    I need to be like Peter – Christ Jesus has the words for life eternal. I can come to the Father only through Him.
    My words need to be like Thomas – My Lord and my God!
    There is no other way.
    He is the way, the truth and the life for all – all who believe in Him.
    Help me this day to live for Him.

    And can it be that I should gain
    An interest in the Savior’s blood?
    Died He for me, who caused His pain—
    For me, who Him to death pursued?
    Amazing love! How can it be,
    That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
    Amazing love! How can it be,
    That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

    ’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies:
    Who can explore His strange design?
    In vain the firstborn seraph tries
    To sound the depths of love divine.
    ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
    Let angel minds inquire no more.
    ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore;
    Let angel minds inquire no more.

    He left His Father’s throne above
    So free, so infinite His grace—
    Emptied Himself of all but love,
    And bled for Adam’s helpless race:
    ’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
    For O my God, it found out me!
    ’Tis mercy all, immense and free,
    For O my God, it found out me!

    Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
    Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
    Thine eye diffused a quickening ray—
    I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
    My chains fell off, my heart was free,
    I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
    My chains fell off, my heart was free,
    I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

    Still the small inward voice I hear,
    That whispers all my sins forgiven;
    Still the atoning blood is near,
    That quenched the wrath of hostile Heaven.
    I feel the life His wounds impart;
    I feel the Savior in my heart.
    I feel the life His wounds impart;
    I feel the Savior in my heart.

    No condemnation now I dread;
    Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;
    Alive in Him, my living Head,
    And clothed in righteousness divine,
    Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
    And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
    Bold I approach th’eternal throne,
    And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
