SCRIPTURE: John 4:27-38
“My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:34)
Sometimes I am so focused on a task that I forget to eat.
Though I am hungry at the end of it, if it goes well I am still deeply satisfied.
I hear Jesus expressing His deep satisfaction at the results of His work day.
Crowds coming from the Samaritan town, thanks to the Samaritan woman’s spreading the word.
People finding hope and strength in Jesus, God’s Messiah.
What feeds His hungry heart is serving God, connecting people to God and hope and life.
It is not easy work, it can be frustrating, but it is very fulfilling in the end.
Visiting someone who is sick, helping someone who is struggling, pointing someone to God.
Speaking hope into a hopeless person’s life, sharing food with someone who is hungry.
Hosting or planning an event that helps people learn, grow or change their lives for the better.
This is VERY fulfilling, it feeds the soul like self-focused labour does not, cannot.
Are you feeding your soul with work that matters, for God, for good?
Or are you slowly starving yourself on meaningless, me-focused living.
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, thank You for feeding my soul this past week in planning a special gathering for Crossroads, for blessing many people through that event. It was worth it!
Observation/Application
Harvest time.
The farmers are busy with their harvest for the time is now.
I also remember a movie called Harvest Time where the people came together to help a family in need to harvest the crop for it was time. The owner had planted but died. The community came to harvest.
God’s Word is the Bread of Life. It must be planted – sowed – by His people. And as with the parable of the sower, t does take rooted and it will have results. Harvest time. People may plant but it is God who gives the increase. He also harvests.
Help me to be a sower Lord of the Word by my word and deeds also this day in Living for Jesus.
Sowing by word and deed,
Scattering precious seed,
Telling the story of His love;
Gladly the news proclaim,
Jesus has come to reign,
Wonderful Savior from above.
Refrain
Sowing in faith and prayer,
Scattering everywhere
Seeds of the truth in mercy,
Sowing for others to share;
From the wide fields of sin,
Gathering wanderers in,
Sowing the truth with song and prayer.
Sing of His wondrous love,
Sing of the home above,
Blending with yonder sacred throng;
Loud let our voices raise,
Beautiful songs of praise,
Sowing the Gospel in our song.
Refrain
Marching we onward go,
Bravely we face the foe,
Clad in the armor of our Lord;
Ever our prayer shall be,
Sowing, O Lord, for Thee,
Guide us and teach us by Thy Word.
