SCRIPTURE: John 2:1-12
“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” (John 2:11)
If someone said they had superpowers, would you believe them?
You would want proof, maybe a demonstration of said superpower?
For centuries people were hoping a messiah would come, who would make this messed up world better.
He would get rid of misery, poverty, immorality, selfishness, sickness, disabilities, oppression, injustice.
He would turn this world into a paradise of blessing, with ‘the best of meats and the finest of wines.’ (Isaiah 25:6)
Jesus shows up, and He starts doing remarkable things, things that the promised Messiah would do.
People start wondering, could this be the One?
This is the first sign through which Jesus proves His identity, His glory.
Many more signs followed, so many John states that “if every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21:25)
But he wanted people to know, to believe, so he wrote this sampler, including this miracle of water to wine.
“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31)
The disciples believed him… do you?
What are the signs in Your life that Jesus is Who He says He is?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
Lord, in addition to the signs recorded here, there are signs in my own life that You are Who You say You are. Thank You for helping, healing, forgiving, changing, and using me in ways that show Your glory!
Observation/Application
The first sign to tell of His glory. And His disciples believed in Him! Wow!
This was the first of many showing the Christ and in that way also telling the people who He was/is. And to be at the marriage feast – people starting their lives together – also need a Redeemer in their midst. Starting life together with Him present is the only way to start.
And there was need in the feast. Only Christ could answer that need.
There is also need in my life and I need Christ Jesus to walk with me each day and so prayerfully I continue my walk with Him.
Into my heart, into my heart,
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus;
Come in today, come in to stay;
Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.
Out of my heart, out of my heart,
Shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus;
Shine out today, shine out alway;
Shine out of my heart, Lord Jesus.
