  1. I’m back 🙂

    Two things immediately came to my mind after reading the passage. The children’s song ‘This little light of mine’ and then also Max Lucado’s story about the candles in the closet not doing what they were made for.

    The ‘eyes’ have it. Remember Israel. It was through their eyes they wanted to be like the peoples around them. Their eyes wetted their appetite wanting possessions, a life style, a king, etc to be like those around them. Their vision became clouded and they lost their way until a new leader/judge came along to bring them on track. Remember the light/fire leading the people?

    But Satan was also an angel of light deceiving the people. They think they are seeing but really they are stumbling along in their walk of life. It is like going through a construction zone – those who have the light of Christ can see where the obstacles are but those with a false light will bump into the obstacles and fall into the pot holes. What is my source of light? Remember the wedding feast and the lamps? I need the upward look and focus on Jesus rather than the downward look and focus on myself.

    O soul, are you weary and troubled?
    No light in the darkness you see?
    There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
    And life more abundant and free!
    Refrain

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
    Look full in His wonderful face,
    And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
    In the light of His glory and grace.

    Through death into life everlasting
    He passed, and we follow Him there;
    Over us sin no more hath dominion—
    For more than conquerors we are!

    Refrain

    His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
    Believe Him, and all will be well:
    Then go to a world that is dying,
    His perfect salvation to tell!

  2. What is God saying to me in these verses? It is not the light that should be our focus. Rather it is what the light illuminates. You don’t stare at a light, unless you want to see spots. Yet the light is very important, and allows you to see what is around.

    I wonder what is meant by “your eye is the lamp of your body”? Perhaps what we see, and what we allow ourselves to see will affect who we are, and who we become. This reminds me of the song “O be Careful little Eyes what you See” . The eyes are the way that we see, the way that we perceive light.

    This last verse suggests that we keep our spirits up, having our whole body filled with light, as if the light of a lamp is shining on me. Light and good moods go hand in hand.

    I pray that I can have the light of Jesus shine on me, and that my little light will shine wherever I go.

    This is what came up this morning in Norm’s little quote corner. How appropriate:

    Think about it
    I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen. Not only because I see it, but because I see everything by it. — C. S. Lewis
