My heart yearns

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 84
The theme of this song is the joy of be close to God.
For the Jews, that closeness was represented by the temple (God’s dwelling place).
But Jesus came to make our hearts a place where God dwells.
“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)
“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).

Translated for today, this song stresses how wonderful it is to sense and appreciate God with us, in us.
In my experience, when I make the time to ‘dwell’ in God’s presence (slow down and consciously accept God’s nearness), I go from “strength to strength” (i.e. I feel stronger).
This is when I most clearly hear from God, and sense His purpose and His strength.
Thing is, when I don’t prioritize time alone with God – too busy? – I lose my strength and purpose.
I can so relate to what this song expresses: my soul years, even faints, for Your presence!
A half hour alone with God quietly renewing myself is better than a thousand hours elsewhere.
I hear God inviting me to enjoy my time alone again with Him today!
Do you?
What do you sense the Lord saying to you?
PRAYER
God, I hear You calling. I look forward to being refreshed in my time alone with You! My heart yearns, even faints!

  1. I make God my time all day he talks to me through the bible, people, books even TV. He is in me and with me leading the way. All we have to do is listen. He even used a donkey though I have not had the pleasure of hearing from him that way. I know if I don’t have him with me the world will creep in but if it starts and you know he is with you, you don’t have far to go for help.
