sorrow for Jerusalem

Special thanks to Jill Hamming from PEI who is writing the devotionals on the readings from Luke (with help from L.E.Porter’s commentary on Luke).

SCRIPTURE: Luke 13:31-35

OBSERVATION/APPLICATION

  1. Some Pharisees warn Jesus that Herod wants to kill Him. He should run! Jesus is not worried. He will keep on doing the work that is set for Him to do.
  2. Jesus says tell Herod I am going to keep on driving out demons and healing people until it is time to go to Jerusalem. He knows He will die in Jerusalem at His time.
  3. Even though He knows the terrible pain coming to Him, Jesus mourns for the people of Jerusalem. So often have they killed prophets and others sent to help. Yet Jesus longs to gather them to Him, to let them see He loves them, but many were not willing. Jesus gives another warning; it is going to be too late.
  4. Once again in this passage I am reminded that everything God does is because He loves us. Jesus came for us. He healed us, He taught us truth, He loved us and He died for us. He longs for a relationship with us.

PRAYER:
Thank-you Jesus that You love us. Remind us again to choose for You before it is too late. Use us to reach others. Thank-you, Amen.
