SCRIPTURE: Genesis 42:1-17
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
Is this the old Joseph coming back, his wounded pride seeking revenge for what his brothers did to him? Was he trying to teach them a lesson, give them a little fear to help them see how bad they had been to him? This is not a “be like Joseph” passage (moralism). The focus is on how God uses sinners and circumstances to accomplish His purpose. Maybe to some extent this reunion parallels the reunion we will all one day experience with Jesus, when we finally stand before Jesus and He will not know us (Matthew 7:21-23).
Like Joseph, many reject Jesus but will one day be looking for help, only to discover that the one they rejected is the one they desperately need. What will the reunion be like for me?
PRAYER:
Lord, unlike Joseph You will not toy with me or pretend not to know me. You will treat me justly and fairly. Help me to humble myself NOW, so that on the day of the reunion, it will come naturally. Amen.
