Aug 10 — Daniel 4:28-37

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 4:28-37

OBSERVATION:
This is a remarkable story. It seems that when pride got to Nebuchadnezzar’s head, God humbled him to the level of animals (see Acts 12:1-24 for similar account). In both cases the purpose of the Lord is what endures, even against those who are in power. Nebuchadnezzar had plenty of opportunities to see that the God of Israel was the Most High God, but his pride continued to elevate himself. God uses this harsh experience of madness (probably 7 days) to bring him to his senses. Once again we see that God does actively speak to and pursue those who do not yet know Him.

APPLICATION:
What is God up to right now in the lives of world leaders, unknown to most people, bringing them to see that He is God, that He is in charge? Like Nebuchadnezzar, He is speaking to them, but are they listening or refusing. Am I listening to the Lord, and to what He is saying to me. He is at work in the circumstances of my life, reminding me of Who He is. Through my readings, through the unsettledness I am experiencing within, through the emptiness of church work, etc, I am realizing that I am missing the point, that my commitment to the Lord has been derailed. Does the reality of the Lordship of Jesus Christ impact and change me the way it should.

PRAYER:
Lord, I confess that I have been converted to Christianity and committed to church work, but not to You and to Your purpose. Forgive me for being more religious than loyal to You. Thank You for Your patience! Amen.
