SCRIPTURE: Daniel 4:1-18
OBSERVATION:
The wise men probably feared to tell the king what it meant, for it was not a good dream. By this point Daniel has proven himself (the spirit of the holy gods is with him). Nebuchadnezzar still speaks of the Most High God (4:2), having learned from experience that Daniel’s God “is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries” (2:47, also 3:26). He doesn’t understand the “theology” of Israel’s God (speaking of the spirit of the holy gods), but he recognizes the power that He represents. God reveals that He is in charge, that He causes the rise and fall of leaders.
APPLICATION:
Whether or not people have a right ‘theology’, they do sense the reality and power of God and this explains why most seek Him, though in a variety of forms and ways. Paul refers to this in Romans 1:20. A reminder again that the Lord is speaking to ALL people, not just to Christians, and those who follow the Lord are expected to explain Him to those around them. We are His ambassadors, but this does not give us a privileged position but a huge responsibility. If we, like Daniel, demonstrate integrity, humility and loyalty to the Lord, others will seek us out for insight into the Lord. Our message is the same as the dream: Jesus Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, all authority belongs to Him.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to strive for integrity, humility and to demonstrate loyalty to You in all things, that people may seek You in me. Help me not to draw the focus to myself, but to point others to You, both by my actions and my words. Amen.
