July 11 — Acts 9:19b-31

SCRIPTURE: Acts 9:19b-31

OBSERVATION:
Saul’s transformation from fierce enemy of Christ to fearless witness for Christ was shocking to both Jews and Christians. No doubt Barnabas’ support was encouraging for him. His bold and powerful message challenged and convinced many, an evidence of the Spirit of Christ at work. When the Spirit takes hold of someone (and is surrendered to), there is no end to the possibilities! Not even persecution and death can put out the Spirit’s fire burning within.

APPLICATION:
I lack the confidence to speak boldly outside of safe, church circles. Is my testimony the result of my being with Jesus, ignited by His Spirit within (Acts 4:13)? This story reminds me again that it is not eloquence or giftedness that makes a ‘minister’, but a real, life-changing encounter with Jesus as Lord and Saviour. This needs to be my first priority!

PRAYER:
Lord, I cannot fake a living relationship with You. I need You to ignite it, and I need to fan it into flame. You are doing Your part, help me to do mine. I long to be a flaming witness for You. Amen.
