June 30 — Jude 1:17-25

SCRIPTURE: Jude 1:17-25

OBSERVATION:
Jude reminds these Christ-followers that there will always be “wolves in sheep’s clothing” among them, and that the best defense is establishing themselves in the their faith, in the Holy Spirit, in God’s love and mercy. And he urges them to show mercy to those who doubt, as well as the trouble-makers among them, but to do SO VERY CAREFUL (“mercy mixed with fear”), making sure not to be stained or misled themselves. Jude’s concluding words are intended to keep their eyes focused on God, since only He can keep them from falling.

APPLICATION:
I once heard it said the best way to detect counterfeit money is to familiarize yourself with the real thing. The stronger we are in our faith, in our relationship with the Lord, the better we are able to stand firm and even show mercy to those who are wandering. But no matter how strong we may think we are, we must always be on our guard. We should not avoid helping others out of fear of falling, but we should show mercy mixed with fear! Forewarned is forearmed!

PRAYER:
Lord, I am realizing again how weak my faith is, and how vulnerable I am to attack. Draw me back to You, the only one that can keep me from falling. Then send me out in Your strength to show mercy to those who are wandering! Amen.
