update from Nathan

Our son Nathan is on a one year internship with Urban Promise, a ministry “that exists to proclaim the love of Jesus, and to express it through the spiritual, social and educational development of children, youth and families living in government housing.”

June 2011
Hello Everyone,

May 20th was our last day of camp. We had a BBQ and we had all the kids from camp invite their friends and families. We had a great turnout, and had a lot of fun. It only rained a little bit, and we had an awesome water balloon fight.

The past year working at camp has been such an amazing experience, and by all accounts the summer program is even more fun. There is camp 5 days a week, and the kids are there from 10 until 3. There are more kids, more leaders, more games, more activities, and we get the opportunity to work with mission teams who come for a week to work with us. Every Friday we take all the kids on the trips. The trips have not been finalized yet, but some ideas we are looking into are the Ontario Science Centre, Ontario Place, and exploring caves (Though I personally think that trying to take 60-80 kids through caves is a terrifying idea, apparently it’s been done before and worked really well). I am also really looking forward to being the experienced one, when all the new interns arrive.

For now I am home until June 26th. I had the awesome opportunity to road trip down to Florida May 21st-May 30th, which was a really fun and relaxing experience (though spending 24 hours straight in a car is not something I look forward to doing again). I am now spending some time relaxing at home, working on an online course, and looking forward to hanging out with friends. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to work at my mom’s uncle’s orchard for the next 2 weeks, which really is an answer to prayers. On June 26th I will head back to Toronto, for a week of training, and then the next week, all Urban Promise staff will be heading to Barrie for a training retreat. July 11th is the first day of camp, and I am really excited for it to start.

Thank you all for your support!

Thank you to everyone for all your concern with my welfare. Thanks for your prayers. I am starting to feel a bit better, so the medicine must be starting to work. Please pray for the leader I work with in the 5/6 classroom, and for all the leaders and kids at camp. Also please pray for me as I worry about them even though everyone there is quite capable of keeping things running smoothly in my absence. Have a great day! And once again thanks for all your support, be it encouragement, prayers, financial, or just remembering me.

Thanks!

Nathan Sennema
