Being the Church

[May 30, 2011]
On the weekend of May 28 and 29, Crossroads Church practiced “being the church” in our community.
We cancelled our Sunday service for community service!
Everyone was encouraged to find some way to serve others. Some suggested opportunities included helping out at the community garden, or at the Mom2Mom Sale at BCF.
Sunday morning people were invited to be a part of a cleaning team at the school.
But others found their own ways to serve: installing an air conditioner, handing out flowers or banana bread, garbage collecting, a bike clinic at BCF, to name a few.
We finished our “Be The Church” weekend with a community BBQ in front of the school, and were blessed to see a number of guests from the neighbourhood.
I was especially encouraged to see how the Crossroads people made a point of talking with the guests, and even waited to eat so that the guests could get their food first.
The turnout for the BBQ alone was a reminder what a great opportunity God has given us here at Bolton C. Falby!
Several times people asked “why are you doing this?”
And the simple answer is, “because we want to bless this community, just as we’ve been blessed!” — freely we have received, freely we will give!
Thanks to all our partners who helped make this weekend a success!
