His glory veiled

There are two readings for today.

SCRIPTURE: Psalm 97
OBSERVATION/APPLICATION:
His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth. [Psalm 97:4-5]
How do you think you would respond if you saw God in all His glory?
Moses asked to see God’s glory; all He saw was the backside of His glory, and that left him glowing for days.
Paul tells us that God dwells in unapproachable light – God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. [1 Timothy 6:15-16]
How can we even think of having a relationship with this all-power, all-glorious Being?

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. [Mark 9:2-3]
Jesus has a close personal relationship with Peter, James and John.
And here He gives them a sneak peak of His hidden, veiled glory.
In that moment, His lightning lights up the world, the earth sees and trembles.
His glory shines brighter than any bleach could match, a dazzling white that blinds and overwhelms the disciples.
For that brief moment, the disciples get a glimpse of the back-side of God’s glory; the invisible becomes visible; the unapproachable becomes approachable.
And that glimpse is too much for them.
God once again veils His glory, so that He can walk with us.

We believe that God is all-glorious, unapproachable, deadly to be seen.
And yet we also believe that He veils this glory, and steps into our world in a visible, personal way.
Jesus is God with us, the same God with us that walked in the garden in Genesis 3.
The same God that walked with Enoch, and took him into glory.
God wants to have a personal relationship with us, but He also wants us to remember that He is, and always will be, glorious beyond our imagination.

As you stare into the blinding light of God’s glory, and realize that He is unapproachable, see also coming out of that light the shape of a man, surrounded in glory, but His face looking towards you in love, His hands open and inviting.
And from His hands, see and feel the Spirit of life and glory flowing towards you, filling you, and drawing back to Himself… and through Him into the light.
We may see, but we need not tremble, we may witness, but we need not melt.
For God wants to walk with us, and therefore veils His glory that we may!

PRAYER:
Lord, thank You for approaching me, when I cannot approach You. Thank You for showing Yourself to me, even though I cannot see You as You are!
