PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 6
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“This, then, is how you should pray…” (Matthew 6:9)
Jesus has warned his followers about showy religion.
He now gives them a sample prayer that is not showy.
Simple sentences, clear and to the point.
This is how we should pray.
Think of how an older teen might ask their dad for the car keys.
‘Ruler of the house, begetter of my life, deserving of so much praise,
Wouldst thou deign to grant to me, your humble servant,
The keys to your most magnificent chariot, in your great mercy…’
Not parent would want to be buttered up or treated like this.
Keep it real, keep it simple, keep it honest, this is your Abba.
God loves us, God knows what we want, and need.
Sometimes even Jesus’s prayer is too complicated for where we’re at.
Sometimes ‘help me!’ is all we can say, or ‘why God?’
Pray as you are, not as you ought to be – God already knows!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank you for releasing me from the burden of praying right, and for inviting me to pray in this simple, real way. Here is what is in my heart…
