PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 5
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“You are the salt of the earth… the salt of the earth.” (Matthew 5:13,14)
In v.11, Jesus shifts the focus to “blessed are you…”.
The disciples will be insulted and persecuted “because of me”.
That is, they do what Jesus does, and bless who Jesus blesses.
They join Jesus in blessing the weak and oppressed, and suffer for it.
Jesus is the salt of the world, and disciples season with him.
Jesus is the light of the world, and disciples shine with him.
Following Jesus is not just being saved and getting eternal life.
Jesus is mobilizing an army of shining, seasoning good deed doers.
We help make the world taste better for those tasting bitterness.
We help make the world brighter for those who experience darkness.
The world is a cruel place for many, but Jesus’s army changes this.
The world may mock and persecute those Jesus following do-gooders.
But the underdogs will see these good deeds, and praise God for them!
And God sees these good-deed doers, and blesses them too!
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I want to make this world a brighter, better tasting place for everyone. Help me to join you in blessing the underdogs, even if it means being insulted and persecuted like you.
