PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 3
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)
The first 3 chapters introduce Jesus, and this is the final word.
Jesus is the son of David and Abraham, God’s promised Saviour and King.
Jesus is God’s gracious blessing for the poor and needy, oppressed and rejected.
Jesus is God with us, God become like us, to show us how much he loves us.
Somehow Jesus is divine, but he is fully human, who we were meant to be.
What God says to Jesus, God says to us: you are my child whom I love!
If we are honest, we admit (repent) that we are not well-pleasing.
We are not living the kind of lives God created us to live.
But God reassures us through Jesus, I love you, and am pleased with you.
Jesus becomes for us what we should be, so that we can be it again.
Trusting in Jesus, immersed in God’s love (baptism), we share in his identity.
God knows our weaknesses and flaws, our sins and shortcomings.
But he still comes to us gently, like a dove, and says these words:
‘You are my son, my daughter, whom I love; with you I am well pleased!’
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, may these wonderful words resonate in my own heart. Amazing grace, amazing love, that I should be covered by, immersed in and filled with this blessing! Thank you!
