PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 3
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness…” (Matthew 3:3)
Matthew is showing how Jesus fits within the big story of the Bible.
Jesus represents the kingdom of David and the blessing of Abraham.
Jesus brings this kingdom blessing to all people high and low, near and far.
A central theme in this story is ‘wilderness’.
Not just Israel going through the wilderness.
This reminds us of the curse on creation after Adam and Eve’s fall.
The ‘very good’ kingdom becomes a wild, dangerous place.
Into this wilderness God comes calling, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9)
Lost humanity is not just seeking God, God is seeking us.
Jesus is God coming to us in our wilderness, calling for us.
Our sin and misery is where God meets us to rescue and restore us.
Jesus is still calling us in our wilderness, to come to him.
“Come to me all who are weary and burdened, I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Will you meet him there, admitting your need, to be baptized in his love?
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you are calling to me in my current wilderness. I come to you just as I am, please cover and fill me with your love and strength.
