Matthew 2 – Blessing the nations!

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Matthew 2

What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?

In ch.1 Matthew gives us insight into who Jesus is.
The Messiah, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
The Saviour for all people, including the least and unlikely.
The miracle of ‘God with us’, God become human to save us.
In ch.2 Matthew continues to set the stage on Jesus’s identity.
Among the unlikely recipients of the blessing of Jesus are non-Jews.
We will see how Jesus’s influence and impact cross borders.
As a Gentile (non-Jewish), this seems normal to me.
But for the Jews, they saw themselves as God’s blessed people.
The Messiah was coming for them, the Messiah was theirs.
The inclusion of sinful women in Jesus’s ministry was shocking enough.
But the extension of blessing to non-Jews was unthinkable.
As we will see, it was this inclusiveness that got Jesus in trouble.
Think about this: your and my inclusion would have upset people then!

PRAYER
Lord Jesus, you got in trouble because of who you welcomed… people like me. Thank you for blessing nations, including me.
