PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 10:17-24
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)
The disciples are SEEING and DOING amazing things.
But there is a warning in this passage regarding pride.
‘Don’t let my choosing and using you get to your head’.
We are like “little children”, not “the wise and learned” (v.21).
We have been graced to see what we see, and do what we do.
Our names have been written in heaven by Jesus, not by us.
We can’t take any credit for this; we are no different, no better.
God choosing and using us should humble us, not make us proud.
I fear that too often christians act as if we were better.
Do I think that I am wiser or stronger than other sinners?
Do I diminish others for their weakness, or shame them for their sins.
Do I think my sins are less than theirs, that they are less than me?
There is only ONE reason for me to rejoice: God’s amazing grace!
We are blessed for seeing this; let others experience it too!
PRAYER
Lord, humble me that I may rejoice in your gracious love. Use me to help others to rejoice in yourn gracious love.
It is super special – life changing special – that I may know Jesus. I am a trusted child of yours. “No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Your words Lord Jesus affirms me and are so reassuring! Thank you that I may call my God – my heavenly Father!
They returmed in joy doing the work of the Lord. So must you and I. And as Jesus also was full of joy, it was the Spirit’s doing. The disciples saw the fruit of their labour. God at work through them. They were instruments of His peace. That is the life of a Christian – doing His will. Being workers in His Kingdom and their eyes we open to see how God was using them His wonders to perform. I too need open eyes and ears to see how God is using His servants this day to share His love to His people.
1 Grace and truth shall mark the way
Where the Lord His own will lead,
If His word they still obey
And His testimonies heed.
2 For Thy name’s sake hear Thou me,
For Thy mercy, Lord, I wait;
Pardon my iniquity,
For my sin is very great.
3 He who walks in godly fear
In the path of truth shall go;
Peace shall be his portion here,
And his sons all good shall know.
4 They that fear and love the Lord
Shall His holy friendship know;
He will grace to them accord,
And His faithful covenant show.
