PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 90
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Lord, you have been our dwelling place…” (Psalm 90:1)
For Moses, life was anything but stable and secure:
— born of an enslaved people, adopted by the Pharoah’s daughter
— raised in Egyptian wealth, on the run for saving a Hebrew brother
— hiding in the desert for 40 years, called to confront the Pharoah
— leading Israel from bondage, a 40 year journey through the wilderness
No place to call home, no secure dwelling place… except God.
Even Jesus followers discover that there is trouble in this world.
But we also know Jesus is preparing God’s house for us (John 14:2).
And in the meantime God and Jesus dwell in us by the Spirit.
“We will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)
We are the Lord’s dwelling place, and the Lord is ours!
We are working with him to make room for the rest of his a family.
He is rebuilding his home with/for us… we WILL dwell with him forever!
Be encouraged: keep working on God’s dream home in this nightmare world!
PRAYER
Lord, this world is not our home as it is, but with you we have a home… Now and forever. Help us to live each challenging, uncertain day firmly at home in God’s love.
“May the favor[a] of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” It is a fitting tribute/ending to this Psalm by Moses. His life was full of challenges – not only as a prince of Egypt yet a Hebrew – but then a fugitive and coming back to lead God’s people out of Egypt and dealing with at times a cantankerous people. Like Moses I too see the need to have God establish the work of my hands! Praying God’s favour on all that I do!
God is with us. Emmanuel. He has promised that. He has given His Spirit to lead and guide and encourage us.
Although this earth is with evil filled, His love is never failing. We are able to sing the praises of the Lord of what He has done for us. Open my eyes Lord that I may see You and your mighty works past and present. And I serve You this day, may the works of my hands be pleasing in Your sight through Jesus, my Saviour.
1. God Himself is present: Let us now adore Him, And with awe appear before Him. God is in His temple, all within keep silence, Prostrate lie with deepest reverence. Him alone God we own, Him our God and Savior; Praise His name forever.
2. God Himself is present: Hear the harps resounding! See the crowds the throne surrounding! “Holy, holy, holy”, hear the hymn ascending, Angels, saints, their voices blending! Bow Thine ear to us here: Hear, O Christ, the praises That Thy Church now raises.
3. O Thou fount of blessing, Purify my spirit; Trusting only in Thy merit, Like the holy angels Who behold Thy glory, May I ceaselessly adore Thee, Let Thy will Ever still Rule Thy Church terrestrial, As the hosts celestial.
