PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Luke 2:15-20
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19)
Like Mary, I am a ponderer… about God, Jesus, faith, etc.
These things are too profound to simply pass over or accept.
Not so much questioning them but mulling over their meaning.
And like Mary I treasure them, finding delight in them.
If God is in control, what does this mean for me?
If Satan is beaten, and I am free in Christ, what does this mean for me?
If God’s Spirit lives in me, how am I experiencing this reality?
If nothing can separate me from God’s love, how is this shaping my life?
So many thoughts, so many things to ponder and treasure.
This is what I am do as I journal… pondering and treasuring.
I don’t always find something profound, but over time my faith grows deeper.
We can never plumb the depths of the ocean of treasures we find in Jesus.
But don’t let that stop you from jumping in and letting them surround you.
Ponder and treasure the things you believe, and you will only grow richer!
PRAYER
Lord, give me a sense of childlike wonder and delight as I think about you, and to know that I will always find new reasons to treasure you in my heart!
We all need to be like Mary: “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Just thinking about the shepherds bursting on the scene in the middle of the night – just totally excited to meet baby Jesus – how they shared their awesome story of angels and how they were led to find Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus! As I reflect on that I’m amazed and at the same time it corroborates what must be true about Jesus. How unusual – how fantastic is this! Like Mary I treasure what I read – it helps me in my faith and belief – Jesus you are the Messiah!
Good news.
Let’s see that good news and they did see the good news they were told about. They couldn’t contain themselves and shared the good news with those they met. They impacted others with their good news. They returned to their tasks of shepherding with a different spirit – praising God. I need to be a living letter – an epistle – that others can read by my words and deeds. Sharing the good news. He lives. Emmanuel. Praising God each and every day for His gift of salvation to all who receive that news.
I love to tell the story
of unseen things above,
of Jesus and his glory,
of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story
because I know it’s true;
it satisfies my longings
as nothing else can do.
Refrain:
I love to tell the story;
’twill be my theme in glory
to tell the old, old story
of Jesus and his love.
