PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Psalm 68
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“He leads out the prisoners with singing!” (Psalm 68:6)
David describes God’s help as a victorious rescue operation.
The Lord rides out with his armies and returns with enemies in tow.
Those enslaved by the enemy are set free and sing in the victory parade.
Israel represents the underdog – oppressed and the needy.
The Lord is on the side of the underdog and will make things right.
This message continues to be true, a joyful hope for those who struggle.
The enemy does its best to mess us up, but cannot beat God.
Jesus has scattered the enemy, and has arisen to the throne.
Paul uses this psalm to describes Jesus’ victory (Ephesians 4:7-10).
Having reclaimed creation, Jesus gifts the ‘poor’ with his Spirit.
And with the Spirit, we are gifted to live and lead with him.
The world may see us as weak and inferior, but we know better!
We join with David in declaring, ‘we are more than conquerors in Christ!’
I sense Jesus encouraging me to stay hopeful and joyful in the struggle.
PRAYER
Lord, when the battle seems dire or difficult, strengthen we with your Spirit that I may stand firm and stay confident in you!
“You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary;” Too often I take God for granted! Life goes on and there are many things that are alarming especially in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan. There are a lot of people suffering. So it is seems that evil is winning! I need to reminded that Jesus has overcome evil even in the face of the evil we see. Like David, I need to know that my God is in charge, that He is awesome and sovereign and that He does care even as we await the day of Jesus final return. We suffer for awhile but we know the end is sure and victorious. Lord help me not to lose sight of your glory in the face of human misery!
The battle belongs to the Lord.
Our God, my God is the One Who saves.
As He has done in the past He is able to do again.
He reigns.
Sing praises to His name. Praise Him today and always. He is the One Who gives strength to His people. He continues to lead His own by His Spirit in the way of truth.
God gives His people strength. And in that strength I can go forward each day.
Lead me and guide me this day.
1. God gives His people strength.
If we believe in His way, He’s swift to repay
All those who bear the burden of the day
God gives His people strength.
2. God gives His people hope
If we but trust in His word, our prayers are always heard
He warmly welcomes anyone who’s erred.
God gives His people hope.
3. God gives His people love
If we but open wide our hearts, He’s sure to do His part
He’s always the first to make a start.
God gives His people love.
4. God gives His people peace.
When sorrow fills us to the brim, and courage grows dim
He lays to rest our restlessness in Him.
God gives His people peace.
