PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: Deuteronomy 33-34
What do you sense the Lord saying to you in this passage?
“Like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.” (Deuteronomy 34:10)
For the people of Israel, there was no greater prophet than Moses.
Moses had a special relationship with God, up close and personal.
Yet what is striking is that not even Moses makes the cut.
He can see the land of the promise, but he cannot enter it.
Not even Abraham, the father of Israel, is presented as perfect.
The very best that humanity can come up with still falls short.
God created us for complete fellowship and love, with God and each other.
We have broken that fellowship and resisted that love.
Even so, God wants a face to face, up close and personal relationship.
Since we cannot attain this, God comes to us in Jesus.
Jesus surpasses, Abraham, Moses, David and Elijah.
In his face we see God’s face, meeting us on the slopes of Moab.
Since we cannot enter his presence, he enters ours to help us.
Jesus brings us face to face with God; now we can be up close and personal.
PRAYER
Lord, I look to God and you fully aware of my shortcomings, but even more aware of the glow of your grace on God’s face.
Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? “Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,”
Thank you Lord for the stories of Moses – how you appointed a people and raised them up to be a people by whom all people would be blessed – and we are because of Jesus!
Who am I – a child of God because Jesus saved me. I too may know the Lord more intimately through the HS. May I be faithful to your guiding me – help me to trust and listen and follow through on your nudging me.
God speaks through His servants to lead His people. Moses talked with the Lord and God’s shone through him. Remember Moses coming down from the mountain? But even this man of God did not enter the promised land, but God showed him the land from the mountain top. God fulfilled His promise to Moses and He still does that today – fulfill His promises through the blood of Christ. Through His grace and mercy I too can talk with the Lord and He will also show me how to live for Him through my words and deeds. May His Spirit continue to lead me and guide me.
1 I am weak, and I need Thy strength and power
To help me over my weakest hour;
Let me through the darkness Thy face to see,
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.
Refrain:
Lead me, guide me along the way;
For if You lead me, I cannot stray;
Lord, let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.
2 Help me tread in the paths of righteousness;
Be my aid when Satan and sin oppress.
I am putting all my trust in Thee,
Lead me, O Lord, lead me. [Refrain]
3 I am lost, if you take your hand from me;
I am blind, without Thy Light to see;
Lord, just always let me Thy servant be,
Lead me, O Lord, lead me. [Refrain]
